Roman Yaremchuk has insisted he could reject a potential move to Arsenal or Wolverhampton Wanderers in favour of an extended stay at Belgian club Gent, speaking to Het Nieuwsblad.

On paper at least, you’d be forgiven for assuming Arsenal or Wolves would be viewed by Yaremchuk as a major upgrade on the club from East Flanders.

But while Gent are well placed to secure European football in 2021/22, the same can’t be said of the striker’s Premier League suitors.

If this season has been an underwhelming one for Wolves, spare a thought for Arsenal.

Despite Sunday’s 3-1 victory over now-relegated West Brom, Mikel Arteta’s directionless, leaderless, often toothless Gunners are facing up to their first season without continental football since the mid-90s.

In April, HLN reported Arsenal and Wolves were both eyeing a potential £18 million move for Yaremchuk.

But, with four years remaining on his contract, the 6ft 3in Ukraine international is in no rush to depart.

“The contact with (sporting director) Michel Louwagie and the president is currently good. They know what I want. They respect me,” Yaremchuk said when asked about his future.

“If there is a good offer, they will decide. Whether more than €20 million is an acceptable price? Can’t it be free? No, it is not my job to talk about that.

“Whether I want to go? The league is important but, above all, I have to feel confident. I want a team where I will be well surrounded.

“Who knows, I might stay.”

With 21 goals across all competitions, Yaremchuk has scored more times than anyone currently representing Arsenal and Wolves, and we include Alexandre Lacazette and the out-of-sorts Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in that.
