Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Chris Sutton has been discussing Tottenham Hotspur’s game against Leicester City this weekend and the absence of Hugo Lloris.
The French goalkeeper is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, and, usually, losing your captain and number one goalie is a huge blow.
However, according to Sutton, Lloris’ absence in these coming weeks won’t be a disaster for Spurs, and he expects Tottenham’s winning run to continue.
Disaster averted
Sutton gave his view on Spurs and Lloris.
“Tottenham are finally showing signs of having some consistency with three straight wins in all competitions, and they will be hoping their manager Antonio Conte is back in the dugout after his operation,” Sutton wrote.
“Spurs will miss suspended defender Cristian Romero, who was sent off against Manchester City, and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is injured – I might be wrong but I don’t think that losing Lloris is a disaster for them, and they should carry on their good run.”
Making mistakes
To be fair, Spurs may not miss Lloris all that much. After all, he was making plenty of mistakes recently.
Indeed, he made notable errors against both Arsenal and Newcastle that cost Spurs points lately, and perhaps this forced absence will see Spurs’ defence improve.
Of course, when Lloris is at his best he’s a huge asset, but it has been quite a while since we’ve seen the World Cup winner play at his peak level on a consistent basis.
Perhaps this time out of the team will see Lloris improve and have a new fire lit under him.
