Gary Neville mocked Sky Sports reporter, Patrick Davidson, for previously telling Newcastle United’s Joelinton ‘I didn’t realise you were that good’, as he posted on Instagram.
The comments were made by the Sky reporter back in December during Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United.
Whilst Joelinton struggled when playing upfront for the Magpies, ever since Eddie Howe joined the club, their previous number nine has transformed into one of the best hard-hitting midfielders in the country, on form at least.
It’s a credit to the player himself for overcoming previous difficulties and Howe, alongside his coaching staff, for bringing the absolute best out of the player.
Nonetheless, before Arsenal v Liverpool on Wednesday night, Neville went live on his Instragam and brought up the Joelinton subject with his fellow Sky colleague
“Patrick, what was that question you asked that player the other week,” said Neville. “I was like ‘Oh, Patrick. What have you just said there?’ You will remember it. You got a bit of stick on Twitter for it, didn’t you?!”
“Oh, you are talking before Christmas. Are you talking Joelinton?” responded Davidson.
GN: “Yeh, Joelinton plays really well for Newcastle and Patrick, was it Monday Night Football?”
PD: “People will remember.”
GN: “So, after the game, Patrick’s doing an interview with, what’s the midfielder’s name, Longstaff and Joelinton. And he goes to Joelinton ‘I didn’t realise you were that good’.
“I mean seriously,” laughed Neville. “Joelinton’s not had a decent game for two years and Patrick tells him on live television ‘I didn’t realise you were that good’. It wasn’t your finest moment.”

Those comments from the Sky reporter were a number of months ago and since then, Joelinton has taken his game to another level.
Not only is he improving even further, but he is adding consistency to his game and is starting to be a goal threat once again.
The Magpies have only suffered two defeats in the Premier League since December – both against two of the top three in Manchester City and Chelsea.
That’s some going for a side that couldn’t even win a game of football during the first few months of the campaign, as their Brazilian hitter has played a huge part in it all.
