Jamie Redknapp told Sky Sports during their live coverage of Everton’s win against Wolves on Tuesday night that Carlo Ancelotti’s side aren’t in a Premier League title race.
Everton moved fourth in the Premier League table after seeing off Wolves with a number of their key players, especially Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Carlo Ancelotti opted to play without a recognised striker and it’s a tactical move that paid off from the Italian.
Redknapp was asked whether Everton are in a Premier League title race, as he waxed-lyrical about their manager.
“I don’t think they are necessarily in a title race,” said Redknapp. “But I love what they are doing. I am such a big fan of Carlo Ancelotti. You cannot not like the man. Amazing player and as a manager you can see why players want to play for him.
“He just talks sense all the time. He doesn’t confuse anybody with his tactics. Says it like it is afterwards and I can see why people love him at their club and players really respond to him.
“He has bought good players. The likes of Doucoure and James Rodriguez. He is getting a lot out of Calvert-Lewin that I didn’t know that he probably could and I just think he has done an exceptional job.
“Today, to do it without some of their best players. That’s a huge result for Everton. Probably one of the best of the season so far.”
Everton are four points off current leaders Manchester United and, at the very least, they should be considered as contenders.
It needs to be remembered that second-placed Liverpool, who are one point ahead of their neighbours, clash with Man United on Sunday.
So, if Everton’s game with Aston Villa at the weekend goes ahead and they win then they will close that gap on the top-two.
