Ilkay Gundogan has expressed his ‘love’ for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

The German manager is on the brink of leading the Reds to their first-ever Premier League title.

Liverpool boast a 25-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the table and it looks certain that Klopp will end the Citizens’ bid for three titles in a row.

Gundogan has previously played under the former Borussia Dortmund boss at Signal Iduna Park.

And the Germany international couldn’t speak highly enough of his old coach, even if Liverpool have left him and his City team-mates in the wind this season.

Gundogan, a £20 million signing in 2016, told Fanatik in Turkey: “Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola are the two best teachers in the world. Four years have passed with Klopp. A teacher I love very much. He creates an amazing team spirit and motivates footballers incredibly.

“We were left behind in the championship race this season in the Premier League. We couldn’t show an effect like the last two seasons [when] we are champions.”

Liverpool, who need only two more victories to confirm their title, resume their season on June 21 with a Merseyside derby against Everton, before facing Crystal Palace three days later.

And then the big one against Pep Guardiola’s side on July 2.
