Liverpool supporters loved Steven Gerrard claiming that Manchester United fans were ‘relatively quiet’ after Aston Villa’s FA Cup defeat at Old Trafford on Monday night.
Aston Villa would have felt hard done by following last night’s result because, not only did they dominate Manchester United, but they also had an equaliser controversially ruled out by VAR.
Given his Liverpool past, it was pretty obvious the reception Gerrard was going to get before, during and after the game.
As Gerrard walked down the Old Trafford touchline, he was booed by the home fans, as he simply turned towards the Stretford End and gave the supporters a stare.
Whilst the VAR call was a major talking point after the game, Gerrard was asked about the Old Trafford crowd.
And the Villa boss provided a pretty blunt and straightforward response to BBC Sport on the boos he received.
“Relatively quiet,” said Gerrard on the home fan’s response to him. “I have been to noisier stadiums than this.
“It was a good cup tie, a good atmosphere but in terms of what I got, water off a duck’s back.”
After last night’s defeat, Gerrard will pick his Villa players up once more because it’s another game against Manchester United on Saturday.
This time it’s a Premier League clash and Villa will have the home fans on their side.
The Midlands outfit will feel that if they can produce the same performance, as they did on Monday night, then there’s no reason why they can’t be victorious this time around.
