Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Duncan Ferguson has been discussing his departure from Everton and the fact he wanted the manager’s job at Goodison Park until the end season.
The manager’s post at Goodison Park was available last season after Rafa Benitez’s departure and, as has become tradition at Everton, Ferguson was parachuted in to become the caretaker manager.
As ever, Ferguson did a fairly decent job, but for one reason or another, the Toffees decided against giving him the full-time role.
Sadly, that was the last straw for Ferguson who now claims that he wanted the job until the end of the season, and he decided to depart in order to look for his first job in management.

Ferguson wanted to manage Everton until the end of the season
The Scot opened up on his desire to manage Everton and why he left.
“I felt like I had to move on in the end because the club could’ve put me in until the end of the season, that’s what I wanted, but it never quite happened for me so that’s why I moved away from the club in the end. I left on good terms. I love the club but I thought it was the right time for me to move on,” Ferguson said.
Too risky
As nice as it would’ve been for Ferguson to get a chance to keep Everton up last season, it was far too risky to take a gamble like this at the time.
Yes, Ferguson loves the club and he did well during his caretaker spells in charge, but relegation could genuinely have crippled the club.
Ferguson just didn’t have the CV to command getting such a position at that point in time.
The 50-year-old probably will manage Everton one day, but last season wasn’t the right time for him to take the reins.
