Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign Antony when he was at Ajax, but he moved to Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United in the summer of 2022 instead.

And Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has now raved about him, outlining what the Gunners and Tottenham missed out on.

Jesus plays with Antony for the Brazil national football team.

While Antony, 22, has played 11 times for Brazil, 25-year-old Jesus has made 56 appearances for his national team.

CM reported in the summer that Arsenal were among the clubs who were keen on signing Antony from Ajax.

Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester City all were reportedly interested in the winger as well.

Journalist Miguel Delaney reported in his Reading the Game newsletter in The Independent in June 2022 that Tottenham were planning to challenge Manchester United for the 22-year-old winger.

The Brazil international eventually moved to Old Trafford for £86 million (Sky Sports).

The youngster is part of the Brazil squad for the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar.

Antony has scored three goals in six Premier League matches for United so far this season.

The United no. 11 has played five times in the UEFA Europa League.

Gabriel Jesus on reported Arsenal and Tottenham target Antony

Jesus said about Antony: “Antony shows us (in Brazil training) that he is skilful, he is a quality player, such a good guy.

“I love him as well. Such a good guy. I am so happy for him to come here.

“The Premier League is not easy to play in, and he has showed his quality. I love him as a person and as a player as well.”
