Hugo Lloris celebrated 10 years as a Tottenham Hotspur player on Wednesday.
It was exactly a decade to the day since Spurs spent £12 million [BBC Sport] on signing the France goalkeeper from Lyon.
Since then, Lloris has gone on to record 420 competitive appearances in a Tottenham shirt and has managed an excellent 122 clean sheets in the Premier League.
Erik Lamela spent eight years as his teammate in North London.
And here’s what the Argentina international – who left Spurs last summer – said about the Frenchman.
He told Tottenham’s official website: “After a few years, we became very good friends, we used to live close to each other and we travelled to training together, drank Mate, talked about the team, about football, always pushing, trying to do our best.
“It was a pleasure for me to play with him for so many years. I respect him so much as a player, as a friend. We spent eight years together, a long time, and shared some beautiful moments. I love him, to be fair. I’m so happy when I watch him play at Spurs.”
At 35, Lloris is in the twilight of his football career.
It’s very likely that Tottenham will be the last club that he plays for and how desperate he will be to win a trophy in North London.
And to be fair, that’s a legitimate possibility now.
In Antonio Conte, Tottenham have a genuine world-class manager and one with a history of winning silverware at every club he’s been at.
Winning the Premier League this season might be a tall order in a landscape where Manchester City have dominated, winning four of the last five titles.
But long term that’ll be the goal and if Lloris continues to impress then, well, the Lilywhites certainly won’t be ruling out their prospects, particularly not with someone like Conte at the helm.
