Ian Wright has reacted on Instagram by sending a message to Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford after a video of the forward scoring in training went viral – with Marcelo Bielsa’s reaction delighting many Leeds fans.

The 25-year-old joined Leeds in the summer from Middlesbrough but after just seven appearances, the ex-Chelsea striker suffered a posterior cruciate ligament injury. It was supposedly set to rule him out for four months until January.

But Bamford has returned to training at Thorp Arch ahead of schedule and is now on course to feature for the Under-23 side sooner rather than later, before making his eventual return into the first team.

Bamford posted a video of his goal, which sees him volley the ball with his left foot – as well as Bielsa’s hilarious reaction. Arsenal legend Wright re-posted the video on Instagram, captioning: “I love Bielsa”, and an encouraging message.

Bamford managed just two starts before suffering the injury in an Under-23’s clash, with Kemar Roofe keeping him out of Bielsa’s starting eleven. Indeed, the striker was used as a sub five times in the league.

But now he could return to have more of an impact as injuries begin to take their toll at Elland Road. The Whites desperately need to get back to winning ways on Saturday, as they host Bristol City.

A win could see them regain their place at the top of the Championship as they sit in third place. But they would have to hope Norwich City lose and Middlesbrough drop points.
