Ray Parlour told talkSPORT Drive that Jordan Henderson was correct to have a go at his Liverpool teammate Thiago Alcantara against Leicester.

The Highbury legend shared that he liked the fact that Henderson criticised Thiago for giving away the free-kick which led to Leicester’s equalising goal.

Whilst Liverpool’s form has gone down the drain in recent weeks, one thing they cannot afford to lose is their leadership skills, and they have quite a lot of that in the team.

Parlour, who would have worked under one of the great captains in Tony Adams, shared why he liked Henderson verbally berating Thiago for his mistake.

“I like that,” said Parlour about Liverpool’s £20 million midfielder. “Absoutley (Henderson should be barking out orders). You are the skipper.

“You ask Tony Adams, if you weren’t doing your job, you would get absolutely hammered in the game itself. That’s what skippers are there to do. You shake people up at times when they are going through the motions.

“He made a poor decision their Thiago. Jordan Henderson said ‘Come on, you cannot do that. You cannot give away free-kicks or penalties in dangerous areas’.

“There’s nothing wrong with that. I like that. When it’s vindictive, the criticism. Then you have got a problem.”

Liverpool need to muster every bit of mental fight they have in there because their lack of confidence and form has drained their skills away.

Perhaps a change of competition and mindset will help because they are in Champions League action against RB Leipzig tonight.

A first-leg win against the German outfit, along with a clean sheet, then it will help their cause heading into that all-important Merseyside derby.
