Jurgen Klopp has lauded the importance of Roberto Firmino and claimed that Liverpool play ‘pretty awesome’ with him on the pitch, as he told his Champions League press conference.

Firmino ended his goal drought at the weekend when he netted during Liverpool’s pretty comfortable 3-0 win over Leicester City.

The Brazilian false number nine is a much-talked-about figure in the game because of his playing style and how he is perceived by those who appreciate him and those who are critical.

Well, Klopp likened him to playing, not one, not two, not three, but ’12 instruments’ in the Liverpool ‘orchestra’.

“Scoring was always important to Bobby,” said Klopp. “But Bobby is a complete footballer, so a football team is like an orchestra. We need to have people for different instruments.

“Some of them are louder, some of them are not loud but they are all important for the rhythm and Bobby’s incredibly important. He plays like 12 instruments in our orchestra, so he is incredibly important for our rhythm.

“Thank God we can play without him as well but it’s nice to have him on the pitch. If you look at the numbers, I like it a lot having him on the pitch because we play pretty awesome. But I am not concerned about anything with Bobby.”

Liverpool’s trophies under Jurgen Klopp

  1. Champions League

    2018/19

  2. UEFA Super Cup

    2019

  3. FIFA Club World Cup

    2019

  4. Premier League

    2019/20

Firmino is the on switch for Liverpool’s attack, without him, they can lack that spark and connection, which only he can bring.

It results in the £29 million signing from Hoffenheim [BBC Sport] being a marmite-like figure in the game.

You either see the 8/10 performances he can bring to the table without scoring, or you simply don’t understand why a player is praised so much when his goalscoring record doesn’t compare that well with other strikers in the league.

Either way, Firmino would keep the argument short and simple by showing those critics his Champions League and Premier League medals.
