Celtic’s deadline day signing Diego Laxalt has been in the spotlight recently following his last-gasp move from AC Milan.

Neil Lennon was asked about his latest addition, and he had some glowing words to direct towards the Uruguayan.

Celtic’s Twitter account quote him as saying: ‘I admire him very much.

‘He’s a very good defender. He’s got great quality on the ball. He’s got great desire to make things happen but I like his tenacity more than anything else. He refuses to get beat or give the ball up, he’s a quality player.’

There is no denying that the 27-year-old is a great player.

Not everyone gets signed by AC Milan, nor can they hold their own in a Uruguay team including world-class names like Edinson Cavani, Luis Suarez and Diego Godin.

He has also previously played for Inter Milan, so for the two of the biggest clubs in Italy to sign him throughout his career speaks volumes as to how good he is.

Chris Sutton has also shared his views on the former Genoa man.

The ex-Celtic striker told the Daily Record podcast: ‘Laxalt has come in with a big reputation.

‘Celtic certainly needed to do something down the left-hand side. We have been crying out for weeks. I feel for Greg Taylor but he’s not the answer. If Laxalt hits the ground running, then that will be a really good piece of business.’

That area of the field was definitely the biggest problem for the Scottish champions, so it is admirable to see them plug the gap with such an experienced player of excellent pedigree.

Italian news outlet Voce Giallorossa reveal that a £9 million option-to-buy has been included in the season-long loan agreement, which Celtic can activate if Laxalt is a success.

If true, then that could be a bargain for the Scottish giants.
