Southampton winger Theo Walcott has said on talkSPORT (9:12am, September 26, 2022) that he likes Arsenal and England international star Bukayo Saka as a right winger.

The former Arsenal star has said that he likes Saka as a right winger and not in the wing-back role that he was deployed in for England against Italy last week.

Saka has been playing on the right of a midfield-three for Arsenal so far this season.

Against Italy in the UEFA Nations League at San Siro last Friday evening, England head coach Gareth Southgate decided to use the 21-year-old as a left wing-back.

It simply did not work.

Walcott said about Saka: “Saka is obviously playing wing-back as well. He has not played in that role at Arsenal. I like him as a right winger. I like him as that.”

Play Saka in his best position

In our opinion, for England head coach Gareth Southgate to get the best out of Bukayo Saka, he simply has to play the Arsenal star in his best position.

Yes, we know that the 21-year-old is a very versatile player, and he is committed enough to play wherever the manager wants him to.

Now, of course, we must note that Southgate used Saka as a left wing-back for England for one match.

Just one.

We have to wait and see if Southgate deploys Saka in the same role again.

We are of the opinion that Saka should be played as a right winger.
