Paul Merson says he feels ‘sorry’ for Ange Postecoglou amid Bayern Munich’s attempts to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker, Harry Kane.

Ever since Ange Postecoglou swapped the colours of Celtic for Tottenham Hotspur, the main topic of discussion has been the future of his key man up front.

Former Arsenal midfielder, Paul Merson, thinks that, without the England hitman, Spurs finish in the ‘bottom-half’ and how he ‘likes’ but feels ‘sorry’ for the new man in the dugout, as he told Soccer Special on Sky Sports (08/08/23 at 7:10 pm).

Well, as of this moment, with the new season days away from starting, Postecoglou still doesn’t know if Kane stays or goes.

It has been quite the day for everyone connected to the club because it was first reported that Bayern Munich and Tottenham had come to an ‘agreement’ on a fee for the player, as reported by Sky Sports.

Many thought he was heading out of the exit door, but now it has been suggested that he is ‘increasingly likely’ to stay, as reported by Sky Sports – What a time to be a Spurs fan, eh?!

“You feel sorry for the manager and I like the manager,” said Merson. “But they are going from a team that might get into the top four to they wouldn’t even get into the top-half if he leaves. He scored 30 goals last season.

“100% (they are a bottom-half team). They finished eighth last season and he scored 30 league goals. Maddison is a good player, but how many times did I sit on here and say ‘when Maddison gets fit, Leicester will stay up’? They got relegated.”

More twists to come in the Kane saga?

Bayern have been pretty aggressive in their approach to sign Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer. They wouldn’t have taken such a stance, unless the player or his camp sent out the message that he would join.

So, if Kane has indeed decided to stay, despite the accepted bid, then those in Germany have every right to be annoyed about it.

But Spurs fans would turn around and feel that the Bundesliga champions, who made it public that they wanted to sign him, went about it the wrong way and they are now merely getting what they deserve.
