Diego Carlos has backed Liverpool and Brazil goalkeeper Alisson Becker to win the Golden Glove at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and not his own Aston Villa teammate Emiliano Martinez of Argentina, as he told the club’s official Twitter account.

Ahead of the 2022 World Cup, the Villa players were asked who they think will win the Golden Glove on football’s biggest-ever stage.

The majority of Villa players went for Argentina’s number one Emi Martinez, including Matty Cash of Poland, who will come up against his club teammate in the group stages of the World Cup.

But the popular Villa keeper didn’t have the backing of everyone at the Midlands club.

Whilst Carlos shares a dressing room with Martinez, the Brazilian made it clear ‘I like my country’, so he put forward Alisson’s name, which was also backed by Villa’s number two Robin Olsen.

“I think the Golden Glove, I like my country, Alisson,” said Carlos.

Robin Olsen added: “Emi or Alisson.”

BRAZIL AND ARGENTINA FAVOURITES

The South American giants go into the World Cup as two of the favourites to hit the jackpot at the end of the tournament.

This is a serious crop of players looking to make a name for themselves for both nations and they might just meet during the latter stages of the competition – that’s if they reach that far.

Top your group, and then a semi-final showdown will be penned in for two of football’s heavyweights.
