Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, legendary Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson has been chatting about the Gunners’ current number one, Aaron Ramsdale.

The former Sheffield United man has been making waves at the Emirates with his incredible performances this term, and Wilson has been blown away by how he’s performed on the pitch and how he’s conducted himself off of it.

Indeed, Wilson says that Ramsdale has hit the ground running at Arsenal, while he’s also shared some insight into the goalkeeper’s attitude.

Wilson says that one of Ramsdale’s first requests at Arsenal was for David Seaman to come on board and mentor him, a request that was very swiftly granted.

What’s Wilson said about Ramsdale?

The Arsenal legend gave Ramsdale a lot of praise for his performances and his willingness to learn.

“Arsenal’s signing of Aaron Ramsdale. I live near Bournemouth, so almost weekly I was interested in this lad. They got relegated and Ramsdale was Player of the Year, then he want to Sheffield United and the same thing happened. He came to Arsenal and I thought ‘wow’ that’s interesting’,” Wilson said.

“He’s had those horror stories, but he’s a terrific goalie and he’s hit the ground running. Whether he likes it or not, because I know this is true, I was so in admiration of the fact that one of his first requests when he got there was to ask the club to get this old geezer called David Seaman to come and see him because he’s played for the club and he admires him.”

Perfect attitude

How many players would have the gumption to take these sort of matters into their own hands?

Ramsdale joined Arsenal knowing that they would have had a top-class goalkeeping coaching team on board, but despite the vast resources available to him, he wanted to go above and beyond by getting Seaman on board.

Seaman was, of course, one of Arsenal’s best goalkeepers of all time, and he’s got a lot of knowledge to impart on Ramsdale.

Ramsdale is lucky to have such a mentor, but it’s brilliant to see that he actually requested to have Seaman come in and teach him as it shows the goalkeeper has the perfect attitude to continue to learn and grow.
