How big is Newcastle’s transfer budget this summer?
That’s been the question on many a Toon fan’s mind over the past few months, and according to different sources you get different answers.
The Telegraph reckon that Newcastle’s top-end budget is just £100m, while other outlets have tipped Newcastle for individual deals that are close to £100m.
Sky Sports’ Pete Graves has now shared what he knows about Newcastle’s budget when speaking on the Transfer Talk Podcast, and he had an interesting answer.
What’s been said?
Graves responded when asked how big Newcastle’s budget is.
“I know the answer to this, I kind of know the answer to this. There is no budget. Certain people have put a number on it, and of course Financial Fair Play is going to be a factor, but there is no budget, I don’t think they’re putting any number on it at the moment, so they’re just going to see what happens if the right player becomes available. What they won’t do is overspend one people,” Graves said.

Smart
It seems as though Newcastle will be smart rather then reckless this summer.
Heading into this window, there will have been massive temptation at St James’ Park to just go out and spend hundreds of millions on some big names and hope for the best.
However, despite having an almost limitless pit of wealth, United are still making sure that they don’t overspend and are waiting for the right opportunities to present themselves.
This is a smart way to operate. Newcastle will avoid being ripped off, while they will also manage to stay on the right side of the Financial Fair play rules.
Newcastle may not break any records this summer, but they should be able to improve their squad.
