Speaking on his podcast, Robbie Fowler has claimed that he knows that Steven Gerrard will one day replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager.

Fowler and Gerrard are of course good friends from their playing days, and in the wake of Rangers’ league title win, Fowler was asked if he thinks Gerrard will one day take over from Klopp at Anfield.

“I mean it’s an horrible question and I know the answer, and the answer is of course yes, but I want Jurgen to stay for a long time, because if Jurgen stays for a long time that means my club and Jurgen are successful, so I want Jurgen to stay for a long time,” Fowler said.

“You see Steven and the way he’s performed at Rangers, which is obviously a huge club, then that question is always going to get asked and the answer is obvious, he’s probably next in line in all honestly. I hope it’s not for a good few years in all honesty, and you can see him staying at Rangers for a bit longer anyway and winning absolutely everything.”

Gerrard does seem destined to one day be Liverpool manager, but we can’t help but agree with Fowler that he shouldn’t come in at Anfield for a few years.

Appointing a club legend can obviously be a massive lift, and in certain cases it works, but Gerrard isn’t all that experienced in top level management.

Frank Lampard had so much credit in the bank at Chelsea due to his exploits in his playing days, but he lasted less than two years as their manager, and that’s at least partly down to his lack of experience.

Gerrard should be given a bit more time to hone his craft before coming in at Anfield.
