Speaking to SportsLens, Ray Parlour has been discussing Arsenal’s transfer plans amid Gabriel Jesus’ injury.

The Brazilian striker is set for three months on the sidelines and with the Gunners lacking depth in the attack, there has been plenty of speculation about new striking additions.

Parlour has only poured fuel on that fire, stating that he’s heard that Edu actually went to chat with the Arsenal owners last week, and he’s fairly sure that the Sporting Director will have addressed this issue.

Edu met the owners

Parlour shared what he knows about Edu’s meeting with Arsenal’s owners.

“I know Edu went to see the Arsenal owners last week and I’m sure he would’ve mentioned the situation and said we might need to bolster our attacking options at centre forward now. It’s such a shame because although he wasn’t banging goals in, he was creating so much,” Parlour said.

“I heard it was only three weeks initially but now it’s seemingly three months which is obviously a much bigger issue.”

Easy sell

It won’t have been difficult for Edu to make the case to the owners that Arsenal need a new striker.

The Gunners are in a position that they haven’t been in for years. They could genuinely win the Premier League title this season, and it’s hard to imagine that the Kroenkes would let this opportunity pass them by for the sake of financial frugality.

Yes, it’s a tough market, but if you’re going to compete at the top of the table, you have to navigate these issues and put your hand in your pocket every now and again.

As frustrating as Arsenal can be at times when it comes to signing the right players, it’s surely obvious to everyone at the club that a new striker is needed now.
