Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has told BBC Sport that he knows Dane Scarlett will progress into an important player for his side.
Scarlett came on for Tottenham as a late substitute yesterday, as he made his Premier League debut.
The 16-year-old has now been handed two first-team appearances by Mourinho.
And although he didn’t actually manage to touch the ball, Mourinho says that he still wanted to be the manager to give the youngster his first Premier League chance.
“He did not touch the ball I do not think,” Mourinho said.
“But for me the feeling of the kid also coming on means a lot for the academy, means [a lot] for the kid because he is 16, and means [a lot] to me because I wanted to be the one to put him on in a Premier League match.
“Because I know that he will be somebody in a few years.”
If Mourinho is going to be the manager to see the best of Scarlett in future years then results are going to have to improve at Tottenham.

Spurs may have beaten West Brom yesterday, but the Portuguese boss has fallen under pressure recently.
Tottenham have struggled in recent weeks, and their defensive minded performances have seen Mourinho take on board a sizeable amount of criticism.
The Telegraph say that Mourinho is still under no immediate danger of the sack, but the dissenting voices are now growing, and it will be up to Tottenham to build on their latest win, to ensure the doubters are silenced.
