Have Liverpool signed Darwin Nunez yet? Unfortunately, no.
It is, however, getting very close.
According to Paul Joyce of The Times, the Uruguay international is set to undergo a medical tomorrow ahead of a £85 million transfer to Liverpool from Benfica.
Earlier on Sunday, the reliable Fabrizio Romano reported that the Reds had agreed personal terms with the 22-year-old attacker.
At this point it looks unfathomable for Jurgen Klopp not to get his man, though supporters of the Anfield outfit, who witnessed a collapsed move for Nabil Fekir not long ago, won’t be counting their chickens until the deal is announced.
One Liverpool fan – and former player – is convinced that he’s going to sign and be a roaring success on Merseyside, though.
Jose Enrique, released by the club under Klopp back in 2016, has said on Twitter that he knows the former Almeria youth from his time in Spain and is certain that he’ll make the grade under the German manager.
Nunez will be a replacement for Sadio Mane, who is reportedly set to leave Anfield this summer amid speculation that Bayern Munich want him.
Mane will leave big boots to fill, considering he was arguably Liverpool’s most consistent attacking player last season, even more so than Mohamed Salah despite the latter’s individual awards.
But the South American is only 22 and although he won’t be of Mane’s quality immediately, long term there’s every expectation that he will be.
