Speaking on The Phil Hay Show, Angus Kinnear has claimed that Mateusz Klich turned up to Leeds’ game against Derby last season with a hangover.

Leeds played Derby not long after their promotion was confirmed, and it seems as though some players were still feeling the after-effects of the party.

The Leeds CEO says that Klich wasn’t the only one, but the Poland international was the only one he named.

“If you look at last season, the game that the players ran the most in was away at Derby when I know for certain that Mateusz Klich was hungover, and I think that some of the rest of them were as well. Marcelo explained that when the team plays there natural game, then run more than in any other match, so I don’t think you’ll see a lack of commitment in any of the last three matches.”

Klich didn’t manage to get off the bench against Derby, and perhaps that was for the best.

Klich had actually started 92 consecutive league games for Leeds before he was dropped against Derby, and it seems as though alcohol played a part in that.

To be fair, we can’t blame Klich one bit, Leeds had waited 16 years to be promoted back to the Premier League so the players had every right to have a bit of a party after their return to the top-flight was confirmed.

Klich may have been feeling a bit rough that day, but it didn’t stop Leeds from winning 3-1.
