Jody Morris says ‘Chelsea have done it a lot’ when responding to rumours that Tottenham Hotspur are insisting on putting a buy-back clause in Harry Kane’s possible deal with Bayern Munich.
The former Chelsea coach added that Harry Kane securing a transfer to Bayern Munich is a ‘good deal for everybody’, as he told The Transfer Show on Sky Sports (31/07/23 at 7:05 pm).
There were suggestions recently that Daniel Levy met with officials of the German club to thrash out a deal for the 30-year-old Tottenham hitman.
And whilst Bayern are rumoured to be ‘£20 million’ short of what Spurs want, it seems as though Levy is insisting on putting a buy-back clause in the striker’s contract.
This doesn’t guarantee that Kane would return to the club, that’s if he leaves in the first place, but it does give them a first shot.
Morris spoke about those Kane and Bayern links, after that Levy meeting, and this rumoured buy-back clause.

“The fact that Tottenham are taking that meeting, I think it’s a sign that there are maybe negotiations to happen that could be done on both sides. I think it’s a deal that is good for everybody,” said Morris.
On possible buy-back clause: “It is certainly something all Spurs fans would like to (see put in the deal). Is it worth the paper that it’s written on? Or what you supposedly think it’s worth? If Harry doesn’t want to go back to Spurs, then I am sure he doesn’t have to go back.
“I imagine the buy-back clause will be more about securing a certain price that maybe Spurs can nick him and he can come back. It might suit Harry as well.
“I know Chelsea have done it a lot. Not force ( a player to come back by putting a buy-back clause). It will be more along the lines of being first refusal. It could lock in a price that’s more suitable because you are maybe paying over the odds if you are buying.”

Winning trophies and breaking Alan Shearer’s Premier League record
For Kane, the perfect scenario would be for him to add those trophies to his name, but to also break Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goals record to boot – Ian Wright sent a message to the Newcastle legend recently about Kane’s possible move to Germany.
He needs 47 more to level with the title-winner at Blackburn, but if he leaves for Bayern, then it leaves all of that in the balance.
Of course, he could return, and because he’s a player of high intelligence and expert finishing, if he can play until he is 38, then Shearer might find his record is going to go, regardless.
