Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang played with Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez at Arsenal, and he has praised his former Emirates Stadium teammate on Instagram for his heroics for Argentina against the Netherlands in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Qatar World Cup on Friday evening.

Argentina got the better of the Netherlands 4-3 on penalties after the quarter-final tie ended 2-2 after extra time.

Villa goalkeeper Martinez stole the show in the penalty shootout, as the former Arsenal player saved from Virgil van Dijk and Steven Berghuis.

The 30-year-old hardly played for Arsenal until his final season at the North London club when he got the chance due to injury to Bernd Leno.

However, once Leno got fully fit, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta decided to reinstate the German as his number one goalkeeper.

And Martinez left for Premier League rivals Villa in a £20 million (The Guardian) deal.

The goalkeeper has gone from strength to strength since leaving Arsenal.

Martinez is the number one goalkeeper at Villa and is one of the best in his position in the Premier League.

The 30-year-old won the Copa America with Argentina in the summer of 2021.
