Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, Martin Keown has been discussing Aaron Ramsdale and the impact he’s had at Arsenal so far.

The goalkeeper was signed in the summer, and he’s been a revelation since arriving at the Emirates.

He’s made some world-class saves and he’s even been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award.

However, despite all of this, Keown believes that there may be a mistake coming from Ramsdale.

What’s been said?

Keown spoke to David Seaman about Arsenal’s number one.

“Do you know what David, he’s really surprised me with how well he’s played. How I judge a top goalkeeper is when he’s inactive and then after 75 minutes they have to pull off a worldie save. I think he’s happier when he’s busier and in this Arsenal team he’s busy. When we develop and we get better and we reduce the shots the opposition are having he still needs to concentrate. I think he’s a huge personality and he’s a fan favourite already. He’s done exceptionally well,” Keown said.

Despite his initial praise, Keown did state that he doesn’t think Ramsdale is faultless. Claiming that he believes a weakness will surface eventually.

“I do think there is a ricket there somewhere, I keep waiting for it, there’s been one or two he’s gotten away with and he needs to be a little bit calmer, that’s what he needs to build, but he’s got great reflexes and that save at Leicester was absolutely astonishing, but that calmness, I want to see that.”

Got to remain confident

Keown may well be right about Ramsdale. After all, even the best goalkeepers can make high-profile errors.

However, the most important thing is how Ramsdale recovers after a mistake.

For some goalkeepers, one mistake can ruin their careers. Paul Robinson was never the same after messing up against Croatia for England, while Loris Karius’ Champions League final errors seem to have destroyed his confidence.

Ramsdale may well make an error, but it’s how he reacts to his mistakes that is important.
