Cristian Romero has been a revelation since joining Tottenham Hotspur.
It was a difficult first half of the campaign for the Argentina international, who originally joined on a season-long loan from Atalanta under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Keeping the South American fit was proving difficult, but Romero has been an ever-present figure for Tottenham for the majority of 2022 and it’s coincided with Spurs launching a legitimate attempt to qualify for the Champions league.
On the pitch, there’s no denying that Romero – who will cost £47 million – is proving a hit.
And according to Alasdair Gold, who covers the Lilywhites for Football London, he’s doing everything possible to ensure his time away from the field is just as smooth.
The native Spanish speaker is nowhere fluent at English yet, but Gold has revealed that Romero is sparing no effort in trying to assimilate at Hotspur Way as much as possible.
He told his YouTube channel: “His English is getting there, it’s not great, but it’s getting there. But what he’s made a real attempt to do is just to try and communicate with everyone in the squad. He doesn’t leave anyone out, doesn’t have any clique.
“Obviously, the South Americans are going to be that little bit closer because of their shared background I guess. But that’s what I keep hearing, is that he really tries to integrate himself into the squad. And that’s huge for him going forward.”
That’ll be music to the ears of Tottenham fans.
Even when a player isn’t great, supporters respect effort and commitment, the like of which Romero appears to be showing in spades away from the football pitch and that’ll only enhance his popularity among the fanbase.
Spurs supporters love the big defender and once he’s able to communicate better on the field, there’s no telling how much stronger he’ll become.
