David Seaman has said on Sky Sports News (12:35pm, April 19, 2021) that he is shocked that Tottenham Hotspur have sacked Jose Mourinho.
The Arsenal legend believes that Tottenham should not have dismissed Mourinho so close to the EFL Cup final against Manchester City.
Spurs announced today that they have decided to relieve Mourinho of his duties.
Seaman said on Sky Sports News (12:35pm, April 19, 2021): “I can’t believe it. I just think the timing is all wrong. When Spurs initially signed Jose, they bought him in to win trophies.
“To do this right at the beginning of the week which is like the main preparation for the Cup final has just really shocked me.”
Strange decision?
With Tottenham deciding to join the European Super League, there is no need for them to finish in the Premier League top four this season.
After all, Spurs will not play in the Champions League next season if the Super League goes go ahead.
However, the EFL Cup final is a chance for Spurs to win a major trophy. It is under Mourinho that the North London club reached the final of the competition.
True, Spurs have not been having great results and their performances have not been brilliant in recent weeks, but Mourinho is a serial winner who has won lots of trophies in his career.
It will be interesting to see how the Tottenham players react to this big decision from the club.
