Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after The Telegraph revealed that Lucien Favre is being considered by Newcastle.

What’s the story?

Firstly, you might wonder why this involves Crystal Palace.

Well, as The Telegraph mention, Favre came very close to replacing Roy Hodgson over the summer, but turned down a move to south London as he was wary of managing a side in the bottom half of the Premier League.

The Athletic even claimed the Swiss coach agreed a three-year contract.

Now, Favre is being discussed by the Magpies, following the arrival of Amanda Staveley, Jamie Reuben and the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF).

It will be interesting to see if the 63-year-old takes the reins from Steve Bruce, given the fact Newcastle are not only in the bottom half, but currently languishing in 19th.

Should he take the job, Crystal Palace would have every right to ask questions.

Of course, Steve Parish and everyone associated with the Eagles would have a right to feel aggrieved if Favre replaced Bruce.

However, the job on Tyneside is very different to the one which Patrick Vieira eventually filled in south London.

Favre’s concerns may have been in regards to finances, and how much money he could spend.

With PIF able to spend £190m straight away, you simply cannot blame any manager in Europe for having his head turned by such a transfer budget.

Also, there was a huge overhaul at Selhurst Park in the summer, and it was a daunting task.

At St James’ Park, Favre would walk into a stable club, and also a sleeping giant with the pull factor to lure big names.

Simply put, the former Borussia Dortmund coach should feel able to take the Newcastle job without feeling like he’s gone behind Parish’s back.

For now, let’s see what the Crystal Palace fans on Twitter have been saying about the situation…
