John Terry has posted on his Instagram story that he wants to ‘distance’ himself from the Nottingham Forest job.
The former centre-back left Aston Villa this summer in order to pursue a career as a manager.
At Villa Park, he worked under Dean Smith, helping the club to promotion and then maintaining their Premier League status.
But it doesn’t seem as though he will be swapping one Midlands club for another, despite the pressure on the current manager, Chris Hughton.
This was the passionate response Terry posted on his Instagram story: “I just want to distance myself from the Nottingham Forest job, and all the speculation surrounding myself with the job.
“Unfortunately, I can’t control the media. But it’s important to know it has nothing to do with me, whatsoever.
“Chris is the manager and someone I have a lot of respect for. I wish Chris and the team all the very best for the season. It’s unfair when Chris is in a job to put my name to something.”
Well, that has put an end to that, but it won’t ease the pressure on Hughton, who is searching for a first win of the Championship season.
It’s pretty obvious that this has been a very difficult job for Hughton, but he’s not the first to struggle in that highly-pressured hotseat.
Forest have been away from England’s top-flight for over two decades now, which is a crazy amount of time for a club that has two European Cups in their cabinet.
Certain teams are spending £1bn just to win one, yet Forest can proudly display two.
Whether the patience will be there with the fans and the board remains to be seen, but once again, Forest find themselves in trouble.
