Steven Gerrard is the new manager of Aston Villa, and as you can imagine, plenty of the big names in punditry have had plenty to say about his appointment.
Indeed, many of the big names in the media are former colleagues of Gerrard either at club level or international level, and many have taken to social media to wish him well.
Stan Collymore, Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards have all reacted to this appointment, and now, Michael Owen has given his view on the matter.
Owen is understandably buzzing to see his former teammate given this opportunity, and he’s expressed that he wants everyone to be patient with the 41-year-old after his arrival.
Owen is absolutely right to preach patience at this time.
It’s very easy to demand a lot from a new gaffer, but when you appoint a young manager who has never taken charge at this level before, you have to give them time.
Gerrard has the tools to be a brilliant manager in the Premier League, but as with anyone taking their first job at this level, he may take a bit of time to adapt and settle to the rigours of the English top-flight.
Let’s hope that Villa’s owners and the fanbase listen to Owen’s advice.
