Paul Merson has told Sky Sports that Tottenham Hotspur will not finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season.
The former Arsenal star, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has claimed that it is too much for Spurs to finish in the Champions League places.
Merson believes that Tottenham will not win against Manchester United and Everton in their next two league games.
The Englishman told Sky Sports: “I don’t give Tottenham any chance of reaching the top four at all. They’ve got two tough games coming up against Man Utd and Everton and I don’t expect them to win either of those games. They then have some tricky games Southampton, Leeds, Aston Villa and Leicester.
“I just can’t see how they force their way in. They are seven points behind Leicester at the moment and that’s a lot of points at this stage of the season. Too many points really when they’ve got Man Utd, Everton, Leeds and Leicester to play. It’s too much for Spurs.”
Staying positive
Tottenham are sixth in the Premier League table at the moment with 49 points from 30 matches.
Jose Mourinho’s side are just three points behind fourth-placed and London rivals West Ham United.
True, Spurs have not been particularly great this season, but they are still very much in the race for the Champions League places.
Winning against United and Everton will not be easy, but it is not guaranteed that they will not pick up points from their next two fixtures.
Spurs fans should stay optimistic and confident about the team finishing in the Premier League top four this season.
With no Europa League football, Tottenham can fully focus on the Premier League and the EFL Cup final.
