Bruno Guimaraes has spoken about his intention of making history with Newcastle United, with the Brazilian international the club’s flagship signing in the January transfer window.
Speaking to Globo Esporte whilst on international duty with the Selecao, the 24-year-old midfielder revealed that he wants to repay the faith the Toon have entrusted with him by thriving in English football.
Guimaraes joined Newcastle at the start of the year from Olympique Lyonnais in a deal that caught many by surprise, with the Toon’s new PIF regime making the Brazilian their first statement signing since taking over in 2021.
And now, Guimaraes is eager to bring success back to Newcastle, with the midfielder explaining how much he enjoys playing in the Premier League and how invested the former Ligue 1 star is in the project being led by Eddie Howe.
Guimaraes said: “The game is much more dynamic, at a much higher intensity, here I had time to think, this helped me a lot. English football is the most competitive in the world, it’s a game where you have to be very connected.
The Newcastle star added: “Here, when you have more time to think, it helps a lot. English football is a place I always wanted to be, I never hid it from anyone, Newcastle gave me this opportunity with a big project. I hope to write my name there too.”
Guimaraes could play centrepiece role for Newcastle in exciting new era

Newcastle under their new ownership will no doubt become one of the biggest clubs in world football if they follow a similar path the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City have taken this century, and for Guimaraes, he could be a central piece for this change at the club.
Indeed, Guimaraes was made as a signing of intent from PIF in January, and with the midfielder finally starting to find his feet in the Premier League and his comments off the pitch, the Brazilian looks ready to explode at Newcastle and to lead the club back to its former heights.
