Tomori did not start for Chelsea in their Premier League game against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in London on Sunday.
However, the 22-year-old central defender came on as a substitute at the start of the second half, and Lampard is pleased with his performance despite the Blues losing 2-0, having had defender Andreas Christensen sent off in first-half injury time.
According to a report in The Mirror this month, Everton are interested in signing the young defender and are hopeful of striking a deal with Premier League rivals Chelsea, as covered by HITC Sport here.
Lampard told Chelsea’s official website: “I went with Tomori [as a substitute] and he did really well when he came on.
“He hasn’t played for a while and has been struggling with fitness like most of the squad but I was delighted with him.
“He started last season as the fifth-choice centre-back in most people’s eyes and played more than 20 games for Chelsea so I hope he feels the trust in him.’”
Blow for Everton?
Lampard’s aforementioned comments suggest that he rates Tomori highly and does not want him to leave.
Of course, with Thiago Silva having joined the Blues this summer, it is going to be hard for the England international to play week in and week out, but he would learn a lot working with the Brazilian and under Lampard.
Everton could be disappointed in their reported quest to sign Tomori.
