Trevor Sinclair has shared that he hopes Roberto Firmino stays at Liverpool this summer amid transfer rumours that he could leave, as he told talkSPORT.

The 30-year-old has 12 months remaining on his current contract and he could head for the Liverpool exit door on a free transfer next summer – although there is interest from Serie A giants, Juventus.

It’s only around the corner, but Jurgen Klopp’s side kick-off their Premier League opener against newly-promoted Fulham at the weekend.

The Reds have already put a trophy in their cabinet when they beat Manchester City 3-1 to lift the Community Shield at the King Power Stadium.

Firmino started that game and put in an impressive display, as Sinclair thinks the ‘selfless’ star needs to stay on Merseyside.

“There are also rumours about Firmino and whether he is going to be staying,” said Sinclair. “I hope he does because he is a bit of an icon at Liverpool and he brings a lot to the team.

“He seems like a selfless player, who will sit on the bench at times when there are big games, but when he comes on, he always has that impact.”

FIRMINO TO START AGAINST FULHAM?

Despite idiotic noise on social media to Darwin Nunez’s start to life at Liverpool, he got lift off over the weekend when he scored against Manchester City.

As pre-season has progressed, the former Benfica man has looked much better in Klopp’s system.

But despite riding a wave from scoring in the Community Shield, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Firmino start the campaign in his favoured false number nine role.

The 55-cap Brazil international can help ease Nunez into the club by taking the pressure of starting the first few games, but it will be interesting if they play ever together.

Given that both are very much suited to that central role, then the answer is probably no, but either way, life after Sadio Mane begins at Craven Cottage.
