Rangers are reportedly working on a new contract for creative midfielder Ianis Hagi, according to the player’s father.
Speaking to Digi Sport, Gheorghe Hagi teased that the Scottish giants have plans in motion to award his son a fresh deal after an impressive year with the club.
Hagi has continued to flourish for Rangers in what was an eventual year for the club. The Glasgow giants won their 55th Scottish league title before Steven Gerrard departed to take up the Aston Villa job in November.
Indeed, the 23-year-old has remained an important player for Rangers following the appointment of Giovanni van Bronckhorst. And according to Hagi’s father, the Romanian international is set to be awarded a new contract soon.
The Galatasaray legend said: “I heard, and I think it’s from a reliable source, that Rangers want to renew his contract. Not as it is written in the press here.
Hagi added: “He has played very well and has had an extraordinary and productive year. He is appreciated at the club, and from good sources, I think they want to renew his contract.”
New Hagi contract would shut down rumours of potential exit

With 25 appearances in all competitions this season, Hagi has played a key role for Rangers in their quest to retain the SPL title, and a new contract could quash rumours of a potential exit.
The winger, naturally, has been linked with a move to Galatasaray. Yet Rangers handing Hagi a new contract with improved terms will no doubt be enough to brush talk of a move to Turkey under the rug.
