Speaking to OTB, John Giles has shared what he’s heard about the lack of January signings at Leeds United.
The Whites were in a perilous position heading into the January window, but for some reason, they didn’t bring in any new players in the winger.
They did try to sign Brenden Aaronson from RB Salzburg, but other than that, there were no concrete rumours of bids made.
According to Giles, Bielsa turned down a number of signings that he was offered by Victor Orta in January.
What’s been said?
Giles shared what he heard.
“I heard that Bielsa turned down players that they wanted to bring in, but the thing is, were they his players that he wanted? The Director of Football may have said ‘I’m going to bring Joe Bloggs in’, and he might not have wanted him,” Giles said.
“The fact is that they got nobody to replace those players at the time. If Liverpool had three players missing, they have cover, but Leeds don’t have any cover,” Giles said.

Caused his own downfall
If this is true, then Bielsa has played a part in his own downfall at Leeds.
It was blatantly obvious in January that Leeds needed bodies through the door, and even if they weren’t the best players in the world, Bielsa should have accepted any form of reinforcements at that point.
Who knows? Perhaps these signings would have saved his job, and if Leeds go down, questions will have to be asked of the Argentine and his unwillingness to add to his squad.
