Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has claimed that he still has room for ‘improvement’, as he told his pre-match press conference.
After returning from a long-term knee injury this season, Van Dijk is slowly getting back to his best for his club.
Liverpool are absolutely flying with him back in the starting XI and there aren’t many clubs in Europe who can put their hand up and suggest that they are performing better than the Merseyside club.
On Tuesday night, the Reds will lock horns with Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, with Luis Suarez set to face-off against his former club.
Ahead of the game, Van Dijk spoke about his current levels and how he is going ‘the right way’, but still has ‘work to do’.
“I am still on the way,” said Van Dijk. “I know that there are a lot of eyes pointed at my direction. Is he going to be back the same way?
“The only thing I can do is try my best each game. That’s what I do. I feel like I am improving. Everyone knows how difficult it is to come back from a knee injury – I have work to do.
“The thing is that I don’t think about what others really say or judge. I want to be as good as I can for the team I play for and the fans I play for.
“So far, it’s going the right way and it’s going well. There is always room for improvement.”

Just from a pure physiological standpoint, Liverpool are a different animal with Van Dijk at the back.
The balance in the XI was all over the place last season, hence why they sneaked to a third-placed finished and suffered so many defeats at home.
But it could be argued that right noe, no team in England or in Europe is better than the XI that goes out every week for Liverpool.
And whilst many pushed Liverpool under the radar this season, in regards to winning the Premier League title, a few heads would have turned during the past few weeks.
