Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is not giving up on winning his place back in the north London club’s team.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has not started a Premier League game under Ange Postecoglou and was heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham during the summer transfer window.
However, the 28-year-old has told Bold and the rest of the Danish media that he will try and show why he deserves to be in Spurs’ first XI.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg not giving up
On his current situation at Tottenham, Hojbjerg said: “In the end, the most important thing, and I have made this very clear to the coach and the club, is that I have to show my best side and deserve what I get from playing time.
“Right now I am not among the starting XI. It is what it is. I try to show my best side if the coach points to me.”
According to the Daily Mail, Hojbjerg turned down the chance to join Fulham late in the last transfer window.
He joined Spurs from Southampton three years ago in a deal worth £15m and was a regular for them last season, missing just three games in the Premier League.
The Dane is now having to settle for a bench role, though, with Postecoglou going with Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr in midfield at present.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s attitude not surprising
It is hardly a shock that Hojbjerg is not sulking and just getting on with things. He has always had the right mentality.

The Denmark international was once Southampton captain so is clearly a good example, while his former manager Jose Mourinho has praised his leadership qualities in the past.
“He’s a captain without needing to wear the armband,” the AS Roma boss was quoted as saying by The Athletic back in 2020.
Ultimately, the above alone is why Hojbjerg can still be a useful asset to Tottenham. While Postecoglou still has the midfielder, he might as well use him.
And in the 58-year-old’s defence, he actually has been, with Hojbjerg having played in three out of Spurs’ four Premier League games this term. None of those outings were starts, though, and you suspect that Hojbjerg will want more than appearances from off the bench going forward.
