Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has given his verdict on Sergio Reguilon joining Manchester United from Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester United signed Sergio Reguilon from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the summer transfer window.

United secured the services of the Spain international left-back on a loan deal.

Former United defender Gary Neville has said that he is surprised that the Red Devils signed the 26-year-old.

The Mirror reported that the Red Devils were looking to sign Marc Cucurella from Chelsea, but they could not agree on a deal with the Blues.

So, United went back in for Reguilon and sealed a deal with Spurs.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher said on Sky Sports: “Roy Keane would be delighted, wouldn’t he? Roy Keane would be delighted. He is a big fan, isn’t he?”

Neville responded: “I have to say I was a little bit surprised that we were going for Reguilon.

“Obviously, we have got the issue with Luke Shaw which means that it is a stop-gap, it is a sort of temporary measure, but they have left themselves short in that position.”

Sergio Reguilon has not had a very good time at Tottenham Hotspur so far, and it was clear that he was not going to get much playing time under head coach Ange Postecoglou.

Luke Shaw is injured at the moment, so we can understand why Manchester United decided to bring in Reguilon.

We do not think that the 26-year-old would be a massive success at United.

While the Spaniard would do a decent job at Old Trafford, he is unlikely to prove Tottenham wrong by letting him go.

Reguilon has made 52 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

The left-back has scored two goals, given six assists, and kept 13 clean sheets in those games.
