Shelley Kerr told Match of the Day on BBC One that West Ham’s Tomas Soucek did a ‘man-marking job’ on Aston Villa midfielder, John McGinn on Monday at Euro 2020.
Scotland suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Czech Republic, with McGinn and Soucek starting the game in the middle of the park for their respective countries.
And whilst a roaring Hampden crowd were hoping for that win yesterday, in the end, it was a crushing defeat for the Scots in their Euro 2020 opener.
Former Scotland Women’s boss, Kerr, shared her thoughts on the battle between Villa’s McGinn and West Ham’s Soucek in the middle of the park.
“John McGinn, we highlighted was going to be one of our key players,” said Kerr. “And with Soucek, it was a man-marking job.
“I have to say that he did really well because John McGinn didn’t get enough of the ball over the course of the 90 minutes.”

It is quite the start for the Czech Republic and Soucek, who is continuing his fine form from the recently concluded Premier League campaign into Euro 2020.
The £15 million player (Sky Sports) was one of the unsung heroes as West Ham secured European football, and he may well go down the same path with his country at the Euros.
As for Scotland, a defeat to England on Friday and they are heading for an early exit.
There will be a lot of familiar faces on show as club teammates, such as McGinn v Jack Grealish and Soucek v Declan Rice battle one another in a potentially mouthwatering tie.
