Pat Nevin has paid tribute to Everton star Abdoulaye Doucoure for his performance this afternoon.
The Toffees picked up a 4-2 win over Brighton & Hove Albion to move top of the Premier League table.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin and James Rodriguez – who scored twice – will get the post-match plaudits for their performances in the big win.
While a goalkeeping error from Jordan Pickford might lead to negative press about the Everton stopper.
One man who won’t get too much attention one way or the other is Doucoure who, according to Nevin, was simply all over the midfield today – in a good way.
The former Watford powerhouse did look to be everywhere and here’s what Nevin said to BBC Radio 5 Live about the 27-year-old.
He said: “I have to say Abdoulaye Doucoure is breaking down everything in that midfield. He’s been absolutely fantastic. He is having one of those games where you do question ‘are you playing as a defensive midfielder? Attacking midfielder?’ And actually, he’s doing both!”
It was indeed a barnstorming, all-action display from the big Frenchman and Everton could be in for one hell of a season here.
It’s early days, but 12 points from a possible 12 suggests Carlo Ancelotti, a three-time Champions League winner, has the Goodison Park side playing some brilliant stuff and they could be a very tricky team to combat this season.
