Jamie Carragher singled out Trent Alexander-Arnold on CBS (27/10/20 at 10:30 pm) for his ‘outstanding’ performance in the Champions League last night.

Whilst praising Liverpool’s academy product, he couldn’t help but aim a jibe at Micah Richards, who was sitting in the studio, about ‘bursting onto the scene as a young right-back.

This is what Carragher had to say about Alexander-Arnold and then his comments about Richards, who also responded.

“There is one player, who I should mention, who was outstanding, and that was Trent Alexander-Arnold,” Carragher told CBS. “He was heavily involved in both goals.

“What’s interesting is that we have someone in the studio who actually burst onto the scene [Micah Richards] to actually be a great cover for Pablo Zabaleta at Manchester City.

“Whereas this lad has burst onto the scene to be the best fullback in the world. So, there is a huge difference when you do burst onto the scene.”

Richards responded: “Hold on, hold on. There is only one person who can burst onto the scene, Carra. And that’s me!” he laughed.

It was yet another win for Liverpool, who needed two second-half goals from Jota and Mo Salah, to seal the points for the home team.

As per, Alexander-Arnold’s passing stood out on the night, as he picked up brilliant positrons in the final third and was threading forward passes at will.

He assisted Jota for the opening goal of the game and then in stoppage-time his clever forward ball resulted in Salah being fouled in the penalty area and the left-footed speedster put away with spot-kick with ease.

  2. UEFA Super Cup

  3. FIFA Club World Cup

Whilst Liverpool recorded back-to-back wins and clean sheets in the Champions League, the injury to Fabinho has dampened the mood slightly.

At the rate Liverpool’s injury list is going, Alexander-Arnold might find himself switching as a centre-back because the lack of options is now becoming a concern for Jurgen Klopp.
