Jurgen Klinsmann has criticised former club Tottenham Hotspur for their performance last night, noting that Son Heung-min, Carlos Vinicius and Steven Bergwijn were ‘pretty much not on the field’.
Spurs’ season took another turn for the worst after Chelsea secured a deserved 1-0 victory in North London.
In the absence of Harry Kane, Jose Mourinho gave Vinicius a full Premier League debut but the big Brazilian striker struggled to have an impact up front and his supporting players – Son and Bergwijn – also failed to create much that would’ve threatened the visitors.
A first-half penalty from Jorginho was enough to down the Lilywhites, who remain seven points adrift of fourth-placed Liverpool in the race for a Champions League qualification spot.
And here’s what club legend Klinsmann told ESPN after the game: “I have to be honest, today it’s really difficult [to defend Tottenham]. The first half 45 minutes, Chelsea completely outplayed Spurs. They never created anything the first 45 minutes. Their front line with Son, Vinicius and Bergwijn were pretty much not on the field.”
This was the North Londoners’ third successive Premier League defeat under Mourinho and things aren’t looking good.
Winning the title is now an all-but impossible task, despite sitting top of the table as recently as December, but they’re now 14 points behind leaders Manchester City.
