Pep Guardiola has claimed that Liverpool are ‘one of the best teams’ in history after Manchester City reclaimed top spot in the Premier League table on Wednesday night.

The Man City boss told beIN SPORTS that if his team don’t win their remaining six games, then ‘Liverpool will be champions’.

After Jurgen Klopp watched his side dismantle Manchester United in the Premier League on Tuesday night, it was a case of ‘over to you, Man City’.

There would have been a few nerves around the Etihad when they went into the first half against Graham Potter’s side goalless, but the champions turned it up after that, with goals from Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva.

After the game, this was the message Guardiola sent to Liverpool regarding the Premier League title race.

“Both teams, we know,” said Guardiola. “There are six games left. If we win all the games, then we are champions. And if we don’t win the games, then Liverpool will be champions.

On whether Man City will need to be ‘perfect’ from now until the end of the season and will Liverpool win all their matches: “We are talking about all the games,” added Guardiola.

“Still competing with one of the best teams ever I have seen in the history. That’s Liverpool right now.”

Come the weekend, Man City now have the chance to turn the pressure on their title rivals because they will play first.

Man City will host out-of-sorts and relegation-threatened Watford on Saturday, with a win moving Guardiola’s side four points clear.

Then Klopp and his boys will have to respond by beating their Merseyside rivals, Everton, on Sunday afternoon.

All in all, it wouldn’t be a surprise if both teams go from now until the end of the season winning all their games.
