Liverpool romped to a 7-2 win in the Carabao Cup last night, but one player was conspicuous by his absence.

There was no room in Jurgen Klopp’s match-day squad for Rhian Brewster.

And considering the opposition was League One outfit Lincoln City, this is a game that the 20-year-old Liverpool marksman would’ve been playing – unless, of course, he wasn’t leaving.

Brewster, a Melwood academy graduate, is heavily linked with a £20 million move to Sheffield United [The Independent] among others.

And some Liverpool fans on Twitter believe that his anonymity last night is an ominous sign that a move away from Merseyside is effectively wrapped up.

Here’s how they reacted to Brewster failing to make even the bench:

The youngster scored 11 goals during a half-season loan at Swansea City in the Championship last season.

And although he probably wanted nothing more than to make the grade at Liverpool, his loan in South Wales has whet the appetite for regular football and, sadly, Klopp just can’t offer him it at Anfield.

The good news is that the Reds’ Director of Football Michael Edwards will include a buy-back clause in the contract, meaning that he might not be gone for good.
