Micah Richards has taken to Twitter to react after the Daily Mail revealed that Sunderland are interested in hiring Roy Keane to replace Lee Johnson.
What’s the story?
Well, this would be a remarkable move by Sunderland.
Keane left the Stadium of Light in 2008 after a fallout with Ellis Short, where he then joined Ipswich.
The Irishman left the Tractor Boys in 2011 and has never returned to management since, despite assistant manager roles at Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and the Republic of Ireland.
After hearing the news, Richards – who is known for winding Keane up on Sky Sports – commented on the news.
There’s nothing we’d like to see more in football than Richards working as Keane’s assistant at Sunderland – it would be a sight to behold.
The Daily Mail believe Sunderland are hoping to interview the 50-year-old in the coming days, and he has strong support from senior figures at the club.
It remains to be seen what Keane’s views on the situation are.
Sunderland would be taking a risk with Roy Keane

In our view, it would be a huge risk to hire Keane.
After the 6-0 defeat to Bolton, he would almost certainly be able to fire a rocket up the squad’s backside and get them motivated again.
He is a fierce character, as well as a natural winner.
However, the game has moved on significantly since Keane last managed in 2011.

As the likes of José Mourinho and Rafa Benitez have shown, even some of the best coaches are struggling to succeed in the modern era.
Therefore, it would be a massive gamble to expect Keane to walk straight back into management and adapt.
Nevertheless, there is still much to like about Keane, and should the move happen, we would be keeping a very close eye on Sunderland.
