Gary Neville has stated that he has ‘loved’ watching Arsenal and Tottenham battle it out since he has been working for Sky, as he told his own podcast.
The former Manchester United right-back admitted that, prior to joining Sky, he had never seen the North London derby at the stadium.
One thing the NLD has always provided is pure passion, tension and, above all else, entertainment.
There aren’t many goalless draws when it comes to this fixture and that was proven over the weekend.
Arsenal ran riot against Spurs and burst into a 3-0 lead inside the first 45 minutes, before eventually winning the game 3-1.
But this is what Neville had to say about the Arsenal and Tottenham fixture when looking on from the stands.
“I had never seen this game before, in my life, live,” said Neville. “Until I finished at Manchester United and came to work with you at Sky.
“And I have loved this game for ten years. I have always felt that this has been a game with tension and edge.
“There has been something on it and it has been a really good game to commentate on.
“But it can also highlight when teams are going under a little bit. I felt that Tottenham team, in that first half, went under.”
From all the derbies, that could currently be played in the Premier League today, then entertainment-wise, perhaps not many can better the North London one.
It has had a lot of crazy results and goals – with perhaps the craziest of them all being Arsenal’s 5-4 win at White Hart Lane in 2004 – although Spurs will point towards their 3-2 win at the Emirates and that Younes Kaboul winner.
Usually, derby games are tense encounters, with the passion from the stands seeping its way onto the pitch and that results in a more dogged affair than a free-flowing one.
And whilst Spurs weren’t easy-on-the-eye and free-flowing on Sunday, to their dissatisfaction, Arsenal certainly were.
