Roy Keane told ITV Sport that he has heard ‘good things’ about Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
The Old Trafford legend shared that Leeds’ number six is ‘maturing very, very well’ following his side’s promotion to the Premier League last summer.
Phillips started for England once again on Sunday as they recorded a 2-0 win during their World Cup qualifier against Albania.
And the outspoken Keane is liking what he is seeing from Phillips, which will no doubt delight the Leeds faithful.
“I suppose, at the moment, it would be Phillips (starting for England with Jordan Henderson injured),” said Keane. “He’s playing week in and week out for Leeds.
“Of course, they are not challenging for titles. But they are a newly-promoted team. He is maturing again very, very well and looks a fit lad.
“I have heard some good things about him that he’s a decent lad, so again, a nice problem for England to have.”
Phillips is, more or less, going to be in that squad for England ahead of the Euros this summer.
That defensive role isn’t one that is filled with depth, with Phillips battling Declan Rice for that position.
Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson can also provide defensive quality in that role and if he returns from injury then he could be partnering either of the above duo in midfield.
