Speaking on The View from The Lane Podcast, Jack Pitt-Brooke has shared what he’s heard about potential Saudi Arabian investment into Tottenham.

Over the weekend, The Athletic published a piece about the state of the ownership at Spurs and how much it would now cost to buy the London club for any potential investor.

Pitt-Brooke isn’t aware of any potential takeover on the horizon, but he claims that he has heard that a Saudi Arabian takeover has been touted in the past.

However, the journalist is led to believe that this ship has sailed, while the rumours have also been denied by other sources.

What’s Pitt-Brooke said?

The journalist shared what he’s heard.

“Yeah, that’s an interesting point. In terms of the Saudis, I mean, to be honest, in the course of doing this piece, I have heard suggestions that the Saudis were interested in Tottenham before. I should be clear that this has been denied to us, but I think that ship has probably sailed since PIF bought Newcastle,” Pitt-Brooke said.

Could’ve changed everything

If a Saudi Arabian consortium had purchased Spurs then the entire landscape of English football could have been changed.

Newcastle’s new owners have untold wealth, and if you were to combine a fraction of that with the status of Tottenham, then a super-team could quickly have been assembled.

Of course, we don’t know which Saudi consortium this reportedly was and it seems as though the time for this takeover has been and gone, but it is interesting to hear what could have been in north London.
